A 55-year-old Tucson woman was arrested April 18 after the discovery of cocaine valued at $90,000 in a bag on an eastbound Greyhound bus, which had stopped in Holbrook. The Navajo County Traffic Enforcement Unit and their drug detection canines located the cocaine while searching a bus that had just stopped in Holbrook. The contraband was located after the deputy became suspicious when no passengers would claim the bag as their personal property. A drug detection canine was used on the bag and it immediately alerted to the odor of an illegal substance. When the deputy opened the bag, he found approximately 7.4 pounds of cocaine inside it. The deputy located the owner of the bag by interviewing several passengers, who stated they assisted her with placing the bag in the upper compartment of the bus. Norma L. Bowen was charged with transportation of a narcotic drug, possession of a narcotic drug for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the Navajo County Jail. Her bond was set at $60,000. In a second unrelated incident on the same bus, deputies encountered a man who was extremely nervous. Upon interviewing him, the officers noted that he had a large object concealed on his person. A thorough search revealed approximately 1.5 ounces of heroin valued at $4,200 hidden on the inside of David L. Wardell’s pants. The 56-year-old Florida man was also charged with transportation of a narcotic drug, possession of a narcotic drug for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the county jail and his bond was set at $2,500.
