After taking care of Snowflake with a score of 8-3 on April 10, the Bulldogs made the long journey to Page on Thursday and had to spend extra time there before leaving for home with a 7-6 win, which took nine innings before the Dawgs prevailed.

Winslow got off to a good beginning with three first inning runs. Page matched that number with two in the second and one in the third. Winslow moved back in front with two in the sixth only to see Page overtake them with three in the same inning. Needing one run to extend the game, Winslow got it in the top of the seventh tying the game at 6-6, and forcing extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth but in the top of the ninth, the Bulldogs scored the winning run.

Winslow finished the game with seven runs on only five hits and made two errors. Page scored their six runs on eight hits but made nine errors, which Winslow took advantage of having eight runners reach bases on errors.

At the plate, Jalen Lyons went 1 for 5, as did Jacob Guerrero. Mason Scott was 1 for 4; AJ Huerta, 1 for 4; and Welden Gamber also went 1 for 4.

Coach Art Griffith utilized three pitchers in the game. Dylan Vargas, Sonny Wilbanks and Solomon Setalla combined to give up six runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and walked five Sand Devils.

Playing at Blue Ridge on Friday, the Bulldogs found themselves on the wrong end of a slugfest. The Bulldogs again started well with three in the top of the first, then added three more in each of the second and the third giving them nine runs through three innings, which would normally suffice. However, Blue Ridge matched that total after scoring four in the first, two in the second and one in the third. Winslow moved back on top with two in the fourth and led 12-9 after scoring once in the fifth.

The Yellowjackets quickly went on top for good with seven runs in the fifth, then added six more in the bottom of the sixth handing the Bulldogs the 20-12 region loss.

Winslow pounded out 16 hits in the loss led by Lyons who went 4 for 5. Scott was 2 for 5; Daniel Vizcaya, 2 for 4, with a home run; Setalla, 2 for 2; Ricardo Villanueva, 1 for 5; Alec Williams, 1 for 4; Huerta 1 for 5; and Wilbanks, 1 for 2.

Guerrero worked four innings on the hill, giving up seven runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Williams pitched two innings giving up 13 runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and walked six.

With the split, Winslow moved their season mark to 9-5 and were ranked 14th on Saturday. They hosted Payson on Tuesday and will play at Holbrook on Friday, then travel to Flagstaff on Saturday.

They end the regular season next Monday at home hosting Show Low. The 3A state play-in games will be played on April 27, and it looks like the Bulldogs will be involved in that scenario, although at this point whether they remain at home or on the road will depend on the outcome of their final four contests. Teams ranked ninth through 16th host play-in games for teams ranked 17th through 24th.
