The Bulldogs defeated the Page Sand Devils 7-4 in Winslow March 7 and blanked the Roadrunners 10-0 in Holbrook on March 10. The wins improved Winslow’s record to 5-2-1 for the season and gave them four straight victories.
In the decision over Page Matt Ramos got the win, working five innings and giving up four runs, two of which were unearned, on just two hits and three walks while fanning seven. Kuster Kinlicheenie worked two innings in relief and allowed only one hit.
Winslow scored an unearned run in the first inning on two Sand Devil errors, plated two in the third on a single by Kevin Brown, a double by Kinlicheenie and a single by Rey Chavez-Velez. The lead grew to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double by Junior Villanueva, a single by Chance Dick and two walks. Page cut the margin to 5-4 in the top of the fifth on a single, a hit batsman and four costly Winslow errors. The Bulldogs upped the margin to 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth on singles by K.C. Clay, Villanueva and Dick. Winslow scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a triple by Brown and a ground out.
Brown, Villanueva and Dick were all 2 for 3, with Brown having a triple and Villanueva a double. Kinlicheenie was 1 for 3 with a double. Chavez-Velez and Clay were each 1 for 4.
In the 10-0 win over Holbrook, Kinlicheenie won his third game of the year. He worked all seven innings and gave up just two hits and a walk while fanning 13.
Winslow took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on doubles by Brown and Chavez-Velez, and singles by Ramos and Dick. Three more in the top of the second increased the Winslow lead to 6-0. Nick Marquez and Kinlicheenie singled and there were two Holbrook errors. The margin grew to 9-0 in the fourth inning on singles by Chavez-Velez and Villanueva, a walk and an error. The final run in the top of the seventh inning scored on singles by Blane Foster and Brown, a walk and a hit batsman.
Brown and Foster were each 2 for 3 with a double. Chavez-Velez was 2 for 5 with a double. Dick and Marquez were each 1 for 3. Villanueva and Kinlicheenie were 1 for 4.
The Bulldogs were slated to play the Hopi Bruins on Tuesday in Polacca and the Cowboys today (March 18) in Camp Verde. They will play the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets on Tuesday, March 24, at Lakeside and host the Coconino Panthers on Friday, March 27.
