Football Winslow

The Winslow Bulldogs’ 24-14 win over the Coconino Panthers last weekend made this Friday’s game with Snowflake perhaps the most important of the season.

Snowflake is struggling some with a 3-2 record and did not play on Friday. Even so, the Lobos have traditionally been tough opponents for the Bulldogs, as they were last year.

A win over the Lobos would leave the Bulldogs at the top of their section and likely assure them a playoff berth.

The other principal rival that usually is difficult for the Bulldogs is also having an unusually tough season.

The Show Low Cougars are 3-2, but were clobbered by mighty Casteel 70-7 on the road last Friday. They also lost to Round Valley 41-12 at Eagar in their season opener. Show Low’s wins were over Chinle 42-0, Window Rock 68-0 and 41-13 over a good Coolidge team.

The Bulldogs should be favored over the rest of their opponents: Blue Ridge, Payson and Holbrook. None of those teams has a winning record.

A win over Snowflake would likely set Winslow in position to make a home playoff game a real possibility.
