The Winslow Bulldogs will start the 2018 campaign on the familiar turf of Emil Nasser Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, against the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets. These teams have been rivals for decades and both have been known for their good football programs. Both will be hoping to get this season off to a good start on their way to the playoffs and a possible state title.
The Bulldogs will journey north for the next two games against the Monument Valley Mustangs in Kayenta at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug 24, and against the Page Sand Devils at Page at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31. Winslow has had success against these teams in the past but has also suffered some memorable defeats against teams that are usually tougher at home than on the road.
Back at Emil Nasser Stadium on Friday, Sept. 7, the Bulldogs will face another northern rival in the Chinle Wildcats. The stay will be brief as the Bulldogs will journey to Tucson to meet the Tanque Verde Hawks on Sept. 14. These teams have a limited history and may have never met but this could be an important game for both.
Next comes a familiar rival as the Tuba City Warriors journey to Winslow to meet the Bulldogs Sept. 21. This will be one home game then back on the road for the Bulldogs who will head for Show Low to meet the always-dangerous Show Low Cougars. The Cougars are another team that is often a state title contender.
The Holbrook Roadrunners are another longtime rival of the Bulldogs and will come to Oct. 5. This is a rivalry game where the underdog is always motivated and upsets do occur.
Winslow’s final road game of the regular season will be at Payson on Oct. 10. The Longhorns have been a formidable opponent in recent years and they are a potential playoff team.
The final game of the regular season will be at Emil Nasser Stadium against Winslow’s archrival Snowflake Lobos. This is almost always a tough game between two teams that are often playoff contenders. It would be fitting to have this be a preview of a later meeting a few weeks later in an even more important game.
The Bulldogs will designate a homecoming game later and hope to be playing in the Arizona State 3A Conference Championship Tournament when the regular season ends.
