On Sept. 13, the Winslow Bulldogs traveled to Flagstaff to play football at Northern Arizona University and met the Eagles at their homecoming. The Eagles were determined that this meeting would not be like their last two times they met and that was especially true of senior Eagle Jadon Wetzel who was on fire and a part of every scoring drive for the Eagles.
The first quarter would be scoreless as each team was able to cause turnovers. Bulldog Connor Thomas would recover the on-side kick to give the Bulldogs the ball, even though they kicked-off the game. Flagstaff would then recover a fumble in the 10-yard area. Winslow’s defense was a major factor to keep the game scoreless.
Early in the second quarter, Bulldog Manuel Bollin would score on a 16-yard carry, followed by the point after kick by Caleb Duran. At the nine-minute mark, Eagle Wetzel would score on a 6-yard run. No point after. With a minute and a half left in the half Wetzel on a reverse play to Trey Stingley from 18 yards out would score with the point after for the lead for a halftime score of Flagstaff 13, Winslow 7.
In the third quarter Wetzel would score three more times, first on a 16-yard carry then a 96-yard run and finally for the final score of the game on a 6-yard run, making the final score Flagstaff 34, Winslow 7.
Winslow had only 15 yard passing and 134 yards rushing for a total of 149 yards.
Winslow will host the Ganado Hornets at 7 p.m. this Friday.
