On Sept. 18, the Bulldogs football team hosted the Knights of Gilbert Christian. It was very apparent from the opening play that the Knights are in the hunt for a state championship and they are very focused and disciplined quick off the line. The Bulldogs were forced to cancel their junior varsity game due to needing players to move up to the varsity because of injuries.
The game would get out of hand early with the exception of one misstep, which the Winslow coaches would take a moment to talk to their players, the Bulldogs would work hard but most of all they kept their emotions in check and displayed sportsmanship.
In the first quarter the Knights would score 6 touchdowns and one safety, which would start the running clock, making the score Gilbert Christian 44, Winslow 0, then in the second quarter Gilbert Christian would score twice, making the halftime score 58-0. In the fourth quarter the Knights would score one last time making the final score Gilbert Christian 64, Winslow 0.
Winslow Bulldogs Gabriel Poleonema would lead the team in rushing with 42 yards and quarterback Dallas Tahy with 33 yards carry. Defense player Devin Curley led in tackles with 7 and a fumble recovery.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on, Thursday, Sept. 24 when the Wildcats of Chinle come to town kick-off is at 7 p.m.
