By Greg Perkin The Roadrunners of Holbrook won their final two regular season games last week with victories over Chinle and Monument Valley. They head to the section tournament today (Feb.10) as the fourth seed, facing fifth seeded Tuba City at 5:15 p.m. in Chinle. If they win that game, they will face top seeded Snowflake at 7 o’clock on Friday night, Feb. 12. With an upset win there they would play in the sectional championship game on Saturday evening, also at Chinle. On Wednesday of last week the Roadrunners took care of Chinle 73-44, meeting little resistance from the Wildcats, who are now done with their season. Holbrook led by just four after the first period, but quickly built that lead in the second, then kept increasing the margin throughout the game. Abrian Dickson led the way with 24 points, followed by Benson Davis and Nathan Johnson with 13 each; Hayden Kinlichee, 11; Miireux Begaii, 8; and Tynen Thomas and Terrence Kelly, 2 each. Friday night was Senior Night and Holbrook’s six seniors, Dickson, Davis, Begaii, Johnson, Rhett Desiderio and Brandon Kester celebrated with a 58-28 win over Monument Valley. Holbrook’s defense held the Mustangs to single digits in three of the four periods. The Roadrunners’ offense built a 37-12 halftime lead and they are headed to the section tournament with some momentum, having won the past three games. Davis and Dickson led the team in scoring with 12 points each. Johnson added 9; Desiderio, 8; Begaii, 7; Elliot Pete, 5; Kinlichee, 3; and Kester, 2. The Roadrunners entered sectional week ranked 12th in the state in power points. They will most likely host a first round game on Wednesday, Feb. 17. If they can move into the top eight in the rankings, they would get a first round bye. They finished the regular season with a 22-8 overall record.
