Springtime is nearing, which means Holbrook’s baseball team is set to begin the 2017 campaign with high hopes. Head Coach Brady Pond and his staff have a veteran roster returning from last year and they have put in quality off-season time to prepare for what they hope will be a deep state tournament run.

Holbrook currently has 17 players on the varsity roster led by seniors Miah Perry, Shane McGraw, Cade Maestas, Tristan Baldonado and Oscar Hernandez. Joining them are juniors Cole McDaniel, Ryan Short, Gabriel Santibanez, Gabe Gabaldon, Justin Perkins, Zach Reyes, Jalen Nez, Frankie Ulibarri and Michael Queiruga, and sophomores Brett Buckley, Brady Buckley and Fern Luna.

The Roadrunners open the season today (Feb. 22) with a trip to Chinle. On Saturday, Feb. 25, they will play at Window Rock and on Tuesday, Feb. 28, they will see Chinle again, this time in Holbrook. On Tuesday, March 7, they will play Northland Prep in Flagstaff. Two days later they will compete in the Route 66 Classic tournament in River Valley.

The Roadrunners will be looking to improve on last season’s 18-9 overall record, which ended in the first round of the state tournament with a shutout loss to Gila Ridge.
