Holbrook’s Roadrunners won their 20th game of the season last Friday afternoon, a 7-1 region victory over visiting Show Low. That win moved them into second place in the power rankings with their 13-2 regular season mark.
Show Low broke a scoreless tie with one run in the top of the second. Holbrook didn’t take long to regain control with four runs in the bottom of the third.
That lead was all Justin Perkins needed as he had command on the hill, working all seven innings to garner the win. He allowed just one run on eight hits with seven strikeouts and walked only two batters.
Cade Maestas led the team at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and scored twice. Gabe Gabaldon went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and scored twice. Frankie Ulibarri was 2 for 3. Perkins helped himself by going 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Tristan Baldonado was 1 for 2. Cole McDaniel and Ryan Short both went 1 for 3.
Holbrook was slated to host Snowflake, which has dropped two straight region games on Tuesday. On Friday, April 21, the Roadrunners travel to Winslow for the penultimate game of the regular season. They puts a wrap on the regular season on Tuesday, April 25, when they travel to face Payson, which entered this week ranked number one in the 3A.
