The Roadrunners exacted some revenge from the Winslow Bulldogs last Wednesday with a 4-2 win in Holbrook. In their prior meeting on March 15, the Bulldogs shut out the Birds 6-0.
Working behind a strong pitching performance from Trevor Barton, the Roadrunners gave up just three hits to the Dawgs. Barton worked the full seven innings, allowing two runs, only one earned, on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.
At the plate, Holbrook got on the board in the first inning with a two-run bomb from Nick Robinson. Cade Maestas doubled ahead of Robinson, then scored on the homer. Tristan Baldonado later hit a solo shot in the second inning, giving Barton all the cushion he would need.
Maestas finished the game 1 for 3. Shane McGraw was 1 for 2. Baldonado went 1 for 3 with a home run. Scottie Gishie was 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Robinson went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Unfortunately, the Roadrunners couldn’t keep things rolling in Snowflake on Friday when they were met with an outstanding performance from the Lobo pitching staff.
Snowflake’s Jake Lyman pitched a no-hit shut out against Holbrook for a 10-0, five-inning Lobo win. The Lobos scored four first inning runs, then watched their pitcher do the rest. Snowflake made the most of those eight hits and made no errors.
Holbrook was hitless and made two errors in what was only its fourth power point loss of the season.
Heading into the penultimate week of the regular season the Roadrunners, now 10-4, find themselves ranked 14th in the Division III power points. After hosting Payson on Tuesday, they will travel to Page on Friday, April 22, for a doubleheader contest. They will close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 27, when they host Show Low. Two days later they will be in the Division III state playoffs with a first round game on Friday, April 29.
