Three of the four local area football teams will be traveling this week with the Winslow Bulldogs the only team playing on their home turf. Holbrook, Snowflake and Joseph City will all be on the road.

The Bulldogs will host Chinle in a game that will give the Bulldogs a chance to compare themselves to Holbrook who played the Wildcats two weeks ago. Winslow is 2-1, and coming off back-to-back wins over north region opponents in Monument Valley and Page, both by large margins. Last year Winslow won this contest 26-0. This year don’t expect the margin to be that close with the Bulldogs moving to 3-1 on the year.

Snowflake travels to Page to take on the winless Sand Devils. Page entered last year’s 3A state bracket as the No.4 overall seed, but this year looks to be a different team. Page has played two east region opponents thus far with losses to Payson and Winslow. Snowflake finally won a game in dominating fashion last week with a romp over Florence. Snowflake won this game last year by 32 points, and like the Winslow-Chinle contest, this game may not be that close.

Holbrook has had a week off to get over their loss to Chinle. Friday night they will be looking for their first win in Ganado. The Hornets are off to a 1-1 start with a large loss to a very good Benjamin Franklin team in week one followed by a 62-0 shut out win over Many Farms last week. The Hornets have a turf field, which will be an adjustment for Holbrook. Last season the Hornets won this game in Holbrook but it was a relatively close score. This game could also be close. Holbrook had six turnovers in their loss to Chinle. Another night with those kind of turnover numbers will leave them still searching for that first win. If the Birds take better care of the ball they have a solid chance to notch their first win of the season.

Joseph City enters Friday with a 1-1 season mark. They were handed a big loss to Bagdad in week one but bounced back with a nice 40-18 win over Valley Union last week. Friday they travel to match up with fellow Wildcats from Mayer. Mayer has played just one game this season thus far in a 56-22 loss to Anthem Prep. Last season Joseph City won this match up 45-22. This should be a chance for Joseph City to advance their season mark to 2-1.
