Sixteen telephone poles were placed around the soccer fields at Freeman Park in Taylor as part of the net project that was funded by a donation of $6,000 from Arizona Public Service (APS) and the volunteer labor of Keith Pember of Pember Electric.
According to Aaron Dunford, Recreation and Parks Director for the Town of Taylor, the net project, which consisted of four poles being placed at the four goal ends of the two fields, started on Sept. 6 and was completed the next day.
“APS bored the holes at the ends of each of the fields and Keith donated the labor to put the poles in the holes, since he has the crane on his truck to do it,” said Dunford.
The remainder of the work will be done by the town employees, who are in the process of hanging the netting along the poles that will keep the balls from flying into the areas outside of the fields, including Centennial Blvd.
When APS gave the Town of Taylor their corporate sponsorship for the rodeo this year, Dunford said they tacked on the extra $6,000 for the net project.
The soccer fields were created about eight years ago and are currently used by the Town of Taylor sport leagues as well as the schools and pee wee football league.
Dunford said the project went well and the results look great. “The Town of Taylor would like to give a big thank you to APS and Pember Electric for their help in getting this done.”
