The Winslow Arts Festival held its second annual event last week, and it was a huge success. The festival showcased 32 local artists displaying their work, ranging from jewelry, sculptures, glass etching, Hopi pottery, leatherwork, enamel work, paintings, drawings, metal sculptures, and more. Visitors were able to explore a wide range of arts and crafts and find unique pieces to add to their collections. The festival also featured two dance groups, the local Hopi Dancers, who performed a traditional dance that captivated the audience, and the Folklorico Dancers, who brought energy with their lively performance. To top it off, local band Bordertown provided live music that kept the festival-goers entertained throughout the day.
One unique feature of the Winslow Arts Festival is its celebration of the city’s rich Native American culture. The festival is one of the premier places to find local Native American art. From Hopi pottery to Kachina dolls, attendees were able to experience the unique beauty of Native American artwork. This celebration of the local culture helps to promote the diverse heritage of Winslow and provides a way for artists to express their traditions and customs through their art.
The festival was sponsored by the Winslow Arts Council, which promotes the arts and artists in and around the City of Winslow. The council works tirelessly to support local artists and businesses, and the festival provides an opportunity for these artists to showcase their work while raising money to benefit the arts council. In addition, visitors had the chance to participate in a raffle with items donated by local artists and businesses, with proceeds benefiting the arts council.
Another interesting feature of the festival was a booth dedicated to a research study called Arts & Economic Prosperity 6. Conducted by Americans for the Arts in partnership with the Arizona Commission on the Arts, this study aims to understand the social and economic benefits of the arts in Arizona. The Winslow Arts Council participated in the study by collecting surveys from attendees, providing valuable data about the impact of the arts on the local economy. By participating in this study, the council hopes to bring more of the arts to the area and contribute to the economic growth of Winslow.
Overall, the Winslow Arts Festival was a great success, showcasing the diverse talent of local artists and celebrating the unique culture of Winslow. This year’s festival was even bigger and better than last year’s, and locals are already looking forward to seeing what the Winslow Arts Council has in store for next year’s event.
