For the fourth year, Peace Lutheran Church, in partnership with the Holbrook Elks Lodge, is offering to the area an amazing Christmas Bazaar. What is it? It’s a combination of four things:
* Santa’s Storage Shed. This is Holbrook’s biggest rummage sale. “Everything from soup to nuts is there,” commented Mark Greinke, co-coordinator of this year’s bazaar. “Last year we even sold a homemade coffin.” This year’s offerings include a beautiful king-sized bed with mattress and box spring, bicycles, a huge big-screen TV and a sleigh-load of Christmas decorations, including a dozen trees.
* Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen. Offerings include a variety of delicious, home-baked goodies–cookies, breads, candies–much of which can be frozen for serving during the holidays.
* Elves’ Workshop. “Our elves have been very busy this year, putting together nearly 20 hand-crafted quilts of varying sizes, patterns and colors,” reported Quilting Queen Vivian May. These lovely heirlooms will be sold via a silent auction process. Knitted hats, handcrafted jewelry, candleworks and many other artistic expressions overflow in this area of the bazaar.
* Christmas Café. A hot, made-from-scratch breakfast is served each morning, and a tasty lunch is provided each noon and early afternoon. This year members of Peace will be cooking the breakfast while Elks members are preparing the lunch.
“This is huge,” laughed Peace Lutheran Pastor Jeff Johnson. “It’s gotten bigger each year and this year, we’ve got so many great things we can’t even display everything at once. We’ll be putting out new things daily as room becomes available.” Pastor Johnson encourages shoppers to return each day to see what new things have been added.
The dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 5, 6 and 7. “We’ve expanded our hours this year,” explained co-coordinator Linda Greinke, “to give our patrons even more time to shop.” Opening at 7:30 a.m. each of the three days, the bazaar will close its doors at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and will extend its closing until 4 p.m. on Saturday. “Whatever isn’t sold by 2 p.m. on Saturday goes half-price until we close at 4 p.m.,” said Greinke. “But don’t wait until the end to shop. It gets crazy and you’ll miss some terrific bargains!”
Adding to this year’s fun will be a raffle for a family admission to Bearizona, a fantastic drive-thru zoo near Williams, and a 50/50 cash pot. Tickets will be sold for $1 each, six for $5, 14 for $10 or 30 for $20.
“It’s been a good partnership for three years now,” said Elks trustee Cindy Allen. “It’s a lot of work but a lot of fun, too, and we believe we’re helping our community by providing some great value on a lot of great stuff.
“The proceeds from this bazaar help us do a lot of good in the community.”
Good quality rummage sale items, particularly furniture, are being accepted through Wednesday, Nov. 4, as well as contributions of homemade baked goods and handcrafted items. Additional hands sorting, displaying and pricing everything are also welcome from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 2-4, at the Elks Lodge.
