By China Cassidy Operations Manager Mike Thompson with Sunland Asphalt, the company that did the complete rebuild of the Holbrook Municipal Airport runway, and Justin Tkachuk, a member of The Wings of Faith Organization, are two of many who came together at the airport to organize a donation fly-in to celebrate the completion of the airport. Thompson said that with everything going on in the world, he thought it was the perfect opportunity to do something to help those affected by COVID-19. “We feel very fortunate that we’ve been able to continue to work right now through COVID. We started this right when everything got shut down and that was a little nerve wracking.” Since the Wings of Faith hanger was already available, they collaborated with them to coordinate the event. “We were talking as a group about what can we do to celebrate the project and that it went well. So, we had the idea to do something with The Wings of Faith and came up with a fly-in food drive. We pitched it to the marketing department and the city.” Thompson said that they’ve reached out for financial donations and Sunland matched the donations. So far, they have bought over $6,000 worth of food on top of what they’ve received in donations.” According to Tkachuk, Wings of Faith generally does three trips to the area a year; one in May, one in October and one during the Christmas season but due to the unique circumstances surrounding COVID-19, they are already on their third trip this year.
