By Naomi Hatch Amber LeFevre of Snowflake Junior High School won first place in the Arizona Lions Peace Poster Con-test. Amber was honored by the Snowflake-Taylor Lions Club at a dinner and Christmas party held Dec. 21. Her entry has been forwarded to Lions Clubs International headquarters to be judged with hundreds of other entries from around the world in the Lions International competition. The theme this year was Imagine Peace, and Amber took first place in the district and the state with her poster. Second place for the district went to Alyssa Uchytl, also of SJHS. It was judged by artists Lori Pilato and Pat Vanderbush of Leisure World Art Club in Mesa, and artist Rick Allen of Phoenix. The international winner will be chosen by Feb. 1 announced on World Peace Day in March. The winner will receive $5,000 and travel to New York City to make a presentation to the United Nations General Assembly. The winning poster will be reproduced in the May edition of Lions International magazine. LeFevre’s poster will be on display at the Lions’ multi-district meetings. SJHS art teacher Mike Elertsen has helped the students develop their talent in art.
