Silver Creek Senior Center Board President Cindy Schreiber and Executive Director Marilyn Radke attended the May 8 Snowflake Town Council meeting, and began making a presentation requesting funding for the center during the call to the public.

Schreiber said that the cost of milk is up 63 percent a gallon even with the Northern Arizona Council of Governments contract with Shamrock for all the senior centers, and food, transportation and utility costs have also increased. Fuel costs are up 63 percent from last fiscal year.

Mayor Kelly Willis said, “Because we cannot ask questions in call to the public, and I can see right now that there are a lot of questions, I’d like to ask you to get on the next agenda.” He then thanked them for the great work they do for the senior citizens.

Due to the increased cost of fuel, the center is looking for drivers to deliver Meals on Wheels. The center now pays drivers $3 a day for each of the two Snowflake routes, and $5 a day for the Taylor route, which is 36 miles round trip and takes an hour and 15 minutes.

If you know someone who needs meal on wheels or would like to volunteer as a driver, contact Radke at 536-2222.
