A meeting of the Snowflake School District Continuous Improvement Committee was recently called by Ron Tenney to revamp the mission statement and district vision, Superintendent Hollis Merrell advised the board Jan. 12.
“Nobody in the group (which includes administration and staff from each campus in the district) had a desire to completely revamp the mission statement,” said Merrell. “They wanted it kept simple.”
The district’s new mission statement is: “The mission of Snowflake Unified School District is to prepare all students to become productive and responsible members of society. In partnership with parents and community, our caring professional staff will provide students with an opportunity to develop skills and acquire knowledge.”
The new belief statements are:
“All students are unique and all students can learn.
“Education establishes a foundation for lifelong learning which benefits all students.
“Every school employee is a positive role model affecting the learning environment of each student.
“Education is an active partnership among the home, school and the community.
“Technology enhances and maximizes student learning.
“Character education is another vital part of a student’s education.”
The district vision will now have students, teachers and support staff, and parents and community in circles with the following: “Snowflake Unified School District will create an enthusiastic learning environment in which each student can reach their full potential.”
The board unanimously approved the new vision and mission statement.
In other business, the board unanimously approved purchasing two new vehicles from Hatch Motors. Due to the aging fleet and safety issues the district budgeted $50,000 to purchase two, but not more than three, vans. Three sealed bids were received, with the low bid coming from Sands, reported Business Manager Mark Ollerton. There was some concern about Sands’ bid specs. The next low bid was from Hatch Motors. The board approved the purchase of two GMC Savana, 12-passenger vans, 2011 or newer models, with less than 20,000 miles on them from Hatch Motors.
