On Saturday, April 16, the Town of Snowflake will celebrate Arbor Day by planting approximately 10 trees in the new cemetery. The town is seeking volunteers to help with the tree planting. Anyone interested in volunteering two hours of their time to help in beautifying the town is encouraged to attend. Volunteers are asked to sign up today (April 13) at the front desk of Snowflake Town Hall. The celebration will begin at 8 a.m. in the council room at the town hall, where Town Parks Superintendent/Arborist Bruce Mighton will give a short talk on the significance of Arbor Day and a brief demonstration on proper tree planting techniques. Handouts from The National Arbor Day Foundation, as well as the town’s recommended Tree Guide, will be available to the public free of charge. After the demonstration, the celebration will move to the tree planting site, where individual groups will be divided up and planting will begin. Volunteers are asked to bring their own round point shovel. Tree holes will be pre-dug. The shovels will be used only for backfilling and placing mulch.
