Last season, Arcadia took the 4A Desert Sky Region title away from Snowflake in the final week of the regular season. Friday night, the Lobos made sure it didn't happen again, routing the Titans 50-21on their own turf, claiming the region crown in the process.
Along with the region title, the Lobos remained unbeaten and will be the top overall seed in the upcoming 4A State playoffs.
As the top seed, the Lobos will await the winner of 16th-ranked Coconino and 17th-ranked Sahuarita, which meet Friday night at Coconino High School.
Arcadia is also in that part of the bracket, where the 9th-seeded Titans will host 24th-ranked Pueblo in the first round. Their likely second-round game will be vs. Peoria. If they advance past the 7-2 Panthers, they will again face Snowflake in what is becoming a rivalry in the 4A ranks.
Snowflake is considered the heavy favorite to win the 4A crown, although second-ranked Mica Mountain, which ended the Lobos' season last year in the second round of the state playoffs, and No. 3 Prescott are also considered the top teams in 4A.
Prescott, like Snowflake, is unbeaten at 10-0. Mica Mountain's only loss came to sixth-seeded Walden Grove. The 4A state playoffs are shaping up to be a battle among the conference's top tier.
