The Roadrunners knew their trip to Camp Verde would be tough, but they probably didn’t expect the outcome to be so lopsided. The Cowboys controlled the game throughout, except for one long pass play by Holbrook in the 70-6 loss to Camp Verde.

Holbrook’s bright spot was a couple of long pass plays. Drayden Baldonado connected with Adrian Stump for an 80-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter, posting the Roadrunner’s only points of the night.

Junior Sample returned from several weeks out due to an injury and completed 7 passes for 44 yards but did have 1 interception and lost 2 fumbles. Baldonado completed 11 passes for 125 yards and threw one long touchdown pass. He also threw an interception and fumbled twice.

Ordell Laughter carried 13 times, gaining only 16 yards against a stout Cowboy defense. Jeremiah Ross had 3 runs for 9 total yards.

Stump caught 2 passes for 99 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown. Nathaniel Chatto had 2 receptions for 70 yards.

Myles Nockideneh returned 3 kicks for 37 yards, including a 27-yard return.

Laughter had 4 kick returns for 30 total yards.

This week, things will get considerably easier when Holbrook hosts Red Mesa for Homecoming night on Friday. The Warriors have limited numbers but do have two wins this season. Overall, they are 2-4 and coming off a 0-44 shutout loss to Pinon last week.

Holbrook defeated Pinon by one score two weeks ago, so Roadrunner fans should expect an easy Homecoming win on Friday night.

With the Birds sitting well outside the top 24 in the overall standings, they need to win their final regular season game on Friday, then will have to win the region crossover game on Oct. 23, to have a chance for the postseason. The opponent for the crossover game won’t be determined until the final regular season region games are played on Oct. 16. Holbrook currently has a bye on the 16th.

Holbrook is now 3-4 on the season heading into Friday’s game.
