Trevor Reddick’s Lobo football team started the 4A season on a good note on Friday night with a 37-7 home-field win over Coconino. The Lobos are coming off a 10-2 season last year, which ended in the second round of the playoffs. This year’s team is hoping to make a deeper run in those 4A playoffs.

Jacob LaDuke returns as the Lobo signal-caller, and it took only seven plays for the Lobos to march 80 yards for the first score of the game, a 35-yard rush by Brenner Green giving Snowflake a 6-0 lead with a missed PAT.

The Panthers turned the ball over on downs six plays into their opening drive. Seven plays later, Green scored for the second time, putting the Lobos on top 13-0 with McCoy Norton’s PAT.

Snowflake’s defense forced a three-and-out by the Panthers, and the offense returned the favor to close out the first quarter.

Back-to-back negative plays by Coconino forced them to punt back to the Lobos early in the second. Snowflake’s drive stalled, but Norton booted a 38-yard field goal, extending the lead to 16-0.

Green scored his third touchdown midway through the second period on a 24-yard run. Pushing the margin to 23-0 with Norton’s PAT.

Maverick Greer connected with Green on a 23-yard scoring toss, pushing the lead to 30-0 at the half.

Greer scored Snowflake’s final points on a 4-yard drive, giving the Lobos the 37-0 lead.

Coconino avoided the upset in the last minute of the game with an 11-yard touchdown pass, making the final score 37-7.

This week the Lobos travel to face ALA West Foothills on Friday night. The Guardians shut out Westview 43-0 in their season opener last week. Snowflake won this matchup 30-10 last season in Snowflake. With many of their key players returning, look for the Lobos to once again take care of ALA.
