The Lady Wildcats had an unusual week in that they lost two out of three games they played, although all three were freedom games, and two of the three were against higher level teams.
Monday they were in Mogollon where their week started well with a 16-8 win over what used to be their rival, although in recent years the Wildcats have held the upper hand in most sports. The Wildcats continued their dominance over the Mustangs with a 16-8 road win.
Thursday the team traveled to Round Valley where they came up short in a 3-8 loss to a good Elks team. Round Valley scored once in the first but really expanded their lead with 4 runs in the second frame. Joseph City trimmed the lead to 4-3 by the end of the fourth, but that would be all the offense they could muster. Round Valley added their final 3 runs in the fifth. Joseph City was held to only 4 hits in the loss.
Making a long trip to Kingman on Saturday, the Wildcats fell 11-1 in five innings. The Tigers jumped on top early with a 6-run first inning then cruised to the win, holding the Wildcats to just 1 run in the second frame. Kingman is a solid team with only two losses on their overall season thus far.
This week look for the Wildcats to get back to their winning ways. Three games on tap. They will host Great Hearts Anthem (1A) on Wednesday, then make a short trip to neighboring Holbrook on Thursday. Saturday’s game will be at home vs Horizon Honors (2A). All three Wildcat opponents have winning records at this point in the season. They did have a win over Holbrook earlier this year in their own tournament.
Entering this week the Wildcats were 11-6 overall and 2-0 in 1A conference games.
