At approximately 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, Joseph City Fire District was dispatched to the area of 3rd North and Old US 66 for reports of a brush fire. JCFD responded and found fire spreading across a field. No structures were threatened during this incident. JCFD was able to stop forward progression and contain the fire at approximately four to five acres. Crews remained on scene to extinguish all hot spots and isolated areas of fire. The cause of this fire was a control burn that did not stay contained. Low relative humidity and extremely dry fuels caused the fire to grow quickly.
JCFD would like to remind the community that while controlled burning is an effective way to control vegetation and natural growth always follow safe burning practices. Open burning permits can be obtained by contacting JCFD. Rules and safe burning practices are explained to everyone before the permit is issued and remember, if you feel a controlled burn is getting out of hand dial 911 immediately. Quick intervention can make the difference. For more information about burn permits please contact JCFD’s Public Information Office at info@josephcityfire.com.
