Holbrook picked up their first region win of the new year with a 7-point road win at Winslow on Tuesday last week.
A quick start by the Roadrunners paced them to a 16-5 first quarter lead. Six different players scored for the Lady Birds with Angelica Uranga Williams netting four. Holbrook also got 3-point shots from Maya Francisco and Bailey Williams.
In the second, Winslow battled back. They outscored Holbrook 12-7, but Channing Harrington’s 3-point shot just before the half helped Holbrook hold a 6-point lead.
In the third, Winslow overtook Holbrook in the third and led by 2 going into the final frame. In the fourth, Holbrook held Winslow to just three field goals and made enough free throws down the stretch to preserve the 45-38 win.
Uranga Williams led in scoring with 13 points. Williams added 11; Harrington, 8; Francisco, 7; Heide Bahe, 4; and Farrah Natoni added 2.
Thursday night Holbrook hosted Monument Valley and held a 21-9 halftime lead thanks in part to 11 points from Channing Harrington and 7 from Williams. Holbrook extended that lead in the third with five different players contributing to a 35-29 lead.
Down the stretch in the fourth, Holbrook committed a couple of critical turnovers and saw their lead vanish in the closing minutes of a tough 58-49 home court loss.
Harrington and Bailey Willaims certainly did their part, scoring 20 and 16 respectively. Sami Thomas added 5; Uranga Williams, 3; Camesha Bahe, 3; and Francisco added 2.
Their schedule didn’t get any easier Friday night when top ranked and once beaten Snowflake came to town. The Lobos are heavy favorites to win the title again this year, with a veteran senior lineup returning from last year. Snowflake led by 5 points after the first quarter and extended that lead to 27-11 at the half after Holbrook went cold from the field in the second quarter with just 2 points.
Holbrook trimmed an 18-point deficit down to 3 points early in the fourth quarter before the Lobos finally put the game away, securing the 51-36 win.
Holbrook was led by Williams with 12 points. Harrington added 11; Uranga Williams, 6; Francisco, 2; KC Tsosie, 2; Thomas, 2; and Camesha Bahe helped with 1.
With the loss Holbrook balances their overall record at 10-10. They are 3-6 in regular season contests. This week they have just one game when Winslow comes to town on Friday night.
