Both Lobo soccer teams finished the season ranked highly in the final rankings and advanced to the postseason. Unfortunately for Lobo fans, both teams saw their seasons end before making the state championship matches.
The boys team entered the state playoffs as the No. 2 overall seed with their 10-1 regular season record. They faced seventh-seeded Blue Ridge on Tuesday in the opening round. Blue Ridge ended Snowflake’s season with a 2-0 shutout win over the Lobos.
Snowflake had beaten Blue Ridge 5-2 in the regular season, but the Yellowjackets turned the tables in the playoffs, bringing Snowflake’s season to a close with a 10-2 record.
The Lady Lobos also finished the regular season ranked second overall, but due to region winners getting a bye, they had to play in the conference play-in game on Tuesday. They advanced to the semi-final round with a 7-0 win over Blue Ridge.
Hosting third-ranked Northland Prep on Thursday, the Lobos fell 4-1 to the eventual state runner-up Spartans.
Snowflake had beaten Northland Prep during the regular season by the same 4-1 margin. The loss brought the season to an end for the Lady Lobos, who finished with an 11-2-1 record.
