Joseph City had a busy week to end their season. Their game scheduled for Oct. 10, at Sedona had to be moved to the 13th due to the weather. The change in time didn’t bother the Cats as they defeated Sedona 39-16 for their fourth win of the season.
Their second and final game of the week, and as it turns out, the season was this past Friday when they welcomed in rival Mogollon. Over the years, the Mustangs and Wildcats have played numerous late-season battles; this one went the way of the visitors.
While Joseph City did score 30 points, which is normally enough to win several games in football, the Mustangs piled up 76 points in a big win.
The 76-30 loss brings Joseph City’s season to an end. In 1A football, only the top 12 in the final rankings advance to the state playoffs. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they finished 13th in the final 1A power rankings.
Joseph City showed vast improvement this year, their second under head coach Martin Roes, finishing with an overall 4-4 record. Last season, they were 2-6. The team is very young and should return next year with the majority of their roster back and their sights set even higher.
