Holbrook wrapped up a four-game week on Friday with a rather quirky schedule for the 3A Roadrunners. Three of their four games were against 1A opponents, with the Birds winning two of those three games. Their other win was an east region win over Alchesay.

Playing in Mogollon to start the week on Monday, Holbrook had to hold off a late inning rally by the Mustangs to preserve a 10-9 win. Holbrook led seemingly comfortably 7-3 through the fourth inning, but the Mustangs offset 3 Holbrook runs in the fifth with 3 of their own, then added 2 more in the bottom of the seventh, coming up one run short of a win.

Kentrall John went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles. Elena Philpott was 2 for 4 with a double. Tamyrn Baldonado went 2 for 4 with a double. Cayla Monroe was 2 for 4. Angelica Uranga-Williams went 2 for 5 with a double. Heide Bahe went 1 for 3, and Jaycee Greer was 1 for 4.

Philpott pitched all seven innings, allowing 9 runs on 7 hits with 8 strikeouts, and she walked 6 Mustang batters.

Playing in Whiteriver on Tuesday, in what may be the region’s best overall softball facility, Holbrook had few problems handling the struggling Lady Falcons. Baldonado pitched a one-hitter with 6 strikeouts and walked 2 Falcon batters.

At the plate, Holbrook finished with 8 hits, led by Baldonado, who went 2 for 4; Philpott was 2 for 4, Ava Mann 1 for 3, Amber Begay 1 for 4, Greer 1 for 2, and Uranga-Williams went 1 for 3.

Holbrook made the short trip to Joseph City on Thursday, where they faced a talented Lady Wildcat team that showed their prowess with a 22-0 shutout over Holbrook. Holbrook managed just one hit in the loss.

Holbrook’s final game of the week was in miserable conditions on Friday afternoon. Their game with Williams was originally slated to be in Williams, but due to snow-covered fields, the game was moved to Holbrook.

Through the first six innings, Williams led 5-3 after batting in the top of the sixth. Holbrook bats finally came to life in the bottom of the sixth where they pushed across 11 runs to put the game out of reach. Holbrook went on to win 14-6.

The Lady Roadrunners head into this week with an overall record of 11-7. They were ranked 15th in the power rankings prior to Friday’s win. This week, they will play at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, then will host top-ranked Show Low on Friday. Saturday, they make the journey to Page to face the Sand Devils.
