The Lobos started January in an impressive fashion with three consecutive wins pushing their regular season mark to 6-2. Overall, the team is now 12-6.
Hosting Alchesay on Tuesday last week the Lobos led 10-9 after a competitive first quarter. In the second they extended that lead to 28-21 but the Falcons were still within reach. Snowflake closed the door in the second half. They held the Falcons to just four points in the third quarter and only 9 in the fourth while netting 32 on the other end to win the East Region game 60-34.
Traveling to Safford on Thursday night the Lobos prevailed 62-49 in the non-region contest.
The Lobos hosted Holbrook on Friday night in a nail-biter that came down to the final possession. Snowflake started well netting twenty in the first frame with five players scoring. In the second they extended that margin to 34-21 behind a pair of treys from Landon Clare and six points from Brock Ervien.
Holbrook made a run in the third outscoring the Lobos 20-10, but Snowflake still led 44-41. In the fourth Holbrook’s Tyler Tapaha kept the Roadrunners close but his last shot in the final seconds of the game rolled off the rim leaving the Lobos with a hard-fought 54-52 home-court win over the highly ranked Roadrunners. With the win, Snowflake moved to 3-0 in region play.
Brock Ervien led the team in scoring with 14. Asher Brewer added 12, Merrick Ulberg 10, Aaden Coor 9, and Landon Clare added 9. The Lobos made 3 of 4 free throws and hit five triples.
This week Snowflake will travel to Winslow on Tuesday, then head in the other direction to Whiteriver to face the Falcons on Friday. Saturday’s home game will be a match-up with a young but very talented Valley Christian team. On Tuesday they will play at Show Low.
