Top-ranked Snowflake struggled to a 13-10 win over 22nd-ranked Eastmark on Friday night at Lobo Stadium. The Lobos improved their season record to 8-0, but it wasn’t as easy as most thought it would be.
Playing at home for the first time in October, the Lobos were locked in a defensive battle throughout the first half. The only points on the board were posted by the first of two San Brown field goals.
Leading 3-0 at the half, Snowflake scored their only touchdown of the game in the third with a short run by Jacob LaDuke. Sam Brown added his second field goal in the fourth quarter, giving the Lobos their tenth and final points.
LaDuke completed just two of his seven pass attempts for 17 total yards. He also threw a pair of interceptions.
Aaden Coor had one catch for 10 yards, and Merrick Ulber had a seven-yard reception.
Snowflake rolled up 210 yards on the ground led by Karter Raban’s 114-yard night. Kanton Turley gained 83 yards and LaDuke rushed for 13.
Snowflake’s defense won this game. They held Eastmark to just one score, a touchdown that came in the third period.
Coor led the defense with 14 tackles. Hayydn Nichols finished with 13.
Turley, Gunnar Richards, and Andrew Bentley each recovered an Eastmark fumble.
This week the Lobos remain home to host Apache Junction. The Prospectors have just one win this season. Including last week’s 57-14 loss to Poston Butte, they have now lost four straight games.
It will be five in a row on Friday night. Snowflake has to play better offensively as they look ahead to the playoffs in a few weeks, but they will improve to 9-0 with what should be a solid outing for them on Friday night.
