Another week in the 2A Little Colorado region and another shutout win for Holbrook. Their 44-0 road win in Hopi on Friday night was their fourth straight shutout win in region play. After starting the season with three losses, Holbrook has now outscored their last four opponents a combined 227-0 in region play. This week’s home game vs Red Mesa may well be another zero on the visitor side of the scoreboard at Roadrunner Stadium.

Holbrook’s offense amassed over 600 yards against a struggling Bruins team. Darren Justman completed 11 of his 12 passes for 279 yards, with four touchdowns. On the ground Justman rushed just four times, gaining 117 yards and scored a fifth time. Matthias Montijo picked up 165 yards on just eight runs, finding the endzone once. Manny Rico had 38 yards on two rushes, and Simeon Shaw carried once for nine yards.

Shaw had five catches totaling 156 yards, with a touchdown. Montijo had three catches for 87 yards, finding the endzone once. William Kinds had one 33-yard touchdown catch. Daniel John had one short three-yard touchdown grab.

Like last season, Holbrook finds themselves in a tough spot. They really only have one potential hiccup left on their schedule. Holbrook was ranked 31st in the 2A rankings prior to their win over Hopi. The biggest challenge they have in terms of power points is the Little Colorado Region currently has five teams ranked below Holbrook making it difficult for the Birds to gain much traction even with the wins. Only Pinon, currently ranked 14th, and Tuba City currently ranked 26th, are above Holbrook. The Roadrunners still have those two left on the schedule but should be heavily favored to win each game. If they were to lose any game left on their schedule, they will not make the playoffs. As it is, they are more than likely looking at the 16th seed again like last year, due to the region champion gaining an automatic bid. If that holds true, they will have to travel to the location of the top seeded 2A team in the first round of the playoffs. Currently there are three unbeaten teams in 2A. San Tan Charter, Santa Cruz and Tonopah Valley are the top three ranked teams with three weeks left.

This week Holbrook hosts Red Mesa on Senior Night. Red Mesa is 2-5 and currently ranked 41st in the rankings. Look for another big win for the Holbrook Seniors. Holbrook is now 4-3 on the season.
