The Lobos’ football team earned their third East Sky Region contest victory on Friday night, with a 47-20 road win over the Apache Junction Prospectors. With the win, Snowflake improved to 6-3 on the season and 4-2 in 4A conference play.
The Lobos let their ground game dictate this win. Brennan Bryant only completed four of his five pass attempts for 84 yards. Snowflake found the endzone six times from their rushing game.
Kanton Turley carried 13 times, picking up 116 yards and a touchdown. Jett McCray rushed just four times, gaining 115 yards with two touchdowns. Karter Raban had 11 totes for 67 total yards and also scored twice. Logan Brimhall had two attempts for 11 yards, with one score. Bryant rushed four times, picking up eight yards. Payton Papa had two catches for 44 yards and Ezra Baum caught two for 40 yards.
Defensively, Papa had one interception which he returned 10 yards. Gunner Greer also had a pick he returned for 21 yards.
Snowflake was ranked 14th in power points prior to the win and needs to remain inside the top 16 following next week’s regular-season finale in order to make the playoffs. Snowflake hosts Sierra Linda next week. The Bulldogs are 4-5 on the season but are ranked 37th. They will be coming in on the heels of a 35-26 win over Seton Catholic last week.
An expected win in the final week would send the Lobos to the 4A state playoffs for the second straight year. However, this time they will be a lower seed and will have to travel to the site of a higher-seeded team when the first round begins on Thursday, Nov. 9. The second round of the 4A playoffs will also be at a site of the higher seeded teams.
