Softball 1 Holbrook

Playing their first game since March 13, at the Epic Tourney in Chandler on Thursday, Holbrook went 3-1 over the four tournament games. Their scheduled home game with Show Low on Wednesday was postponed due to poor weather.

Holbrook started the tournament with a tough 0-2 loss to Santa Cruz on Thursday afternoon. Neither team scored through the first four innings, then the Dust Devils scored two runs in the fifth and final inning of the tournament game.

Holbrook had just four hits in the loss with Angelique Tyler counting for half of those hits going 2 for 2. Sarah Slim went 1 for 2, with a double and Riley Reidhead had Holbrook’s only other hit.

Natalie Patterson pitched all five innings giving up just two runs on only three hits. She walked seven Santa Cruz batters and struck out two.

With the loss, Holbrook moved to the consolation side of the bracket and met up with Chinle. The Roadrunners had little problems with the Wildcats defeating Chinle 8-1. Holbrook scored two in the first, then basically put the game out of reach with six second-inning runs.

Madison Moore went 2 for 2, including a home run; Elizabeth Paschal was 2 for 2, with a pair of doubles and three RBI; Reidhead went 1 for 2; Tamryn Baldonado was 1 for 2, with a double. Tyler went 1 for 2.

Baldonado pitched three innings giving up just one run with a walk and had five strikeouts.

Holbrook’s third game was a bit of a revenge game over Joseph City. The Wildcats defeated Holbrook two weeks ago in a regular season game, but this time the Roadrunners prevailed 18-4.

Holbrook left little doubt as to the outcome early on scoring 11 first-inning runs. They tacked on three more in the second and the final four runs in the fourth frame.

Madison Moore went 4 for 4, hitting for the cycle with a home run, a triple, a double and a single. Baldonado also homered for her only hit. Reidhead was 3 for 4, as was Patterson. Tyler went 2 for 4; Paschal, 1 for 2, with a double; Macy Moore, 1 for 2; and Slim went 1 for 3.

Baldonado pitched four innings giving up four runs on six hits, with one walk and a strikeout.

That win set up Holbrook for a showdown with Thunderbird in their final tournament game. The Lady Birds defeated the Titans 13-11.

With both in-season tournaments now behind them, the Roadrunners can focus on the rest of the regular season with each game counting towards power points. Holbrook enters this week with a regular season mark of 1-2 and they are now 6-6 overall. The rankings will come out on Tuesday of this week.

After hosting St. Johns on Monday to start this week, the team will welcome in Snowflake on Wednesday for the east region opener. Thursday they will travel to Winslow. On Saturday they will play a doubleheader in Chinle. Next week Holbrook plays at Blue Ridge on Thursday.
