The Lobos opened the 2023 portion of this season’s schedule with a road loss followed by a home-court win in two games played last week.
On Thursday they traveled to take on Pima who was ranked No. 2 in the 2A ranks with an unbeaten regular season record. The Roughriders have the size to compete with the Lobos and proved worthy of their ranking with a 56-41 win over the Lobos, handing Snowflake just their third regular season loss to date.
Snowflake bounced back with a 62-52 win over the top-ranked team in 1A, St. David on Saturday. The Tigers were 13-1 overall on their season, but the 3A Lobos were too much for them to handle. Snowflake built an 11-point lead through the first eight minutes but led by just eight at the half. That lead extended to 50-34 after three quarters before Snowflake eventually earned the 10-point win.
With the split in the two games, Snowflake enters this week with an overall record of 10-3. They were ranked 17th in the 3A rankings on Friday with a 6-2 regular season mark. They will be in Winslow on Tuesday for their second region matchup with the Bulldogs. Snowflake won the first meeting back before Christmas by a final of 52-32. On Friday the team will travel to face 27th-ranked Payson. Next Wednesday they step out of region play for the final time this season when they host Window Rock.
