The Bread of Life Mission Annual Banquet and Auction was held on Oct. 2 and according to Director Cherise Merrick it was a success! The Elks Lodge in Holbrook was a great venue, with most of the 33 tables were filled. There were donated silent and live auction items auctioned by Bill Jeffers who also provided beef for the dinner and made it a fun evening. Sheriff David Clouse and Holbrook Police Chief Nathan Christianson brought deputies and officers from Show Low, the Navajo County Jail and Holbrook. They participated in a contest called “Tip a Cop.” Each officer was assigned a row of tables and some servers to direct their team. Guests participated by raising their pledges in denominations of “Monopoly money.” Chief Christianson won by a landslide and received a $100 gift certificate to Mesa Italiana Restaurant. Merrick stated, “All the officers were top notch!” Many servers were from the Holbrook High School Honor Society and Key Club, and Merrick wanted to add a special thanks to Ashley Mitchell. Youth for Christ also helped serve, along with many residents from the mission. Merrick noted that the dinner was prepared by Carrie Burgess and her team who did a wonderful job. Navajo County Attorney Brad Carlyon did a great job speaking for the mission. The Coburn Home Group adopted Bread of Life Mission some time ago and frequently call to see what the mission needs. For their dedication and service to the mission they received the “Volunteer Group of the Year” Award.
