By Linda Kor During a meeting of the Snowflake Unified School District Governing Board on Oct. 9, the board approved an architectural drafting program to be added to the course offerings at Snowflake High School as part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The course would begin in the 2021-2022 school year. Architectural drafting would consist of two courses, Architectural Drafting I and Architectural Drafting II. Only two courses are required to make this a complete program and meet the requirements for CTE. The district currently offers an architectural drafting course but the course is under Construction III so this will now be a stand-alone course. Daniel Prestwich would be the instructor and he is already certified with the state to teach this course. This course requires a Provisional Career and Technical Industrial and Emerging Technologies Certificate and Prestwich currently has this certificate. Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) Superintendent Matt Weber presented information on the NAVIT program. Weber expressed his gratitude working with SUSD. He noted that NAVIT has been bringing programs to students for 21 years and that not many districts add programs like Snowflake. NAVIT brings Proposition 301 money into the schools to benefit teachers, as well as soft capital dollars to the school districts. In other business, the board: * Approved the employment of Deanna Williams, Taylor Elementary School instructional aide; and Travis Reddick, Snowflake Junior High School seventh grade football coach. * Approved the resignation of Rebecca Enggleston, Highland Primary School health tech. * Approved volunteers Aaron Huish, SJHS eighth grade softball assistant; and Jason Willis, Snowflake High School boys soccer coach. * Approved the transfer of Becki Lewis from Snowflake Intermediate school clerk to Snowflake Intermediate School secretary; and Cynthia Juarez from Snowflake Intermediate school aide to Snowflake Intermediate School clerk. * Approved a SJHS Student Council fundraiser to sell Lobo masks, FFA to host a barbecue and SHS Madrigals to host an ice cream social. * Approved Arizona School Boards Association policy advisories No. 677 and 678 regarding sexual harassment. * Approved the Fiscal Year 2020 Annual Financial Report. In a brief meeting the following day, the board accepted a paint bid for Taylor Elementary School by Ghaster Painting & Coating in the amount of $71,271. The only other bid came from Riddle Paintings & Coatings in the amount of $107,970.
