With the weather finally warming up, many will begin seeking cost effective outdoor destinations to enjoy with their family and friends. Joseph City resident Rachel Berge is no stranger to the adventures that can be had right in Northeastern Arizona and shared just how cost effective it can be to embrace the local surroundings. Though it’s been a summer hotspot for hangouts and fishing trips for decades, Berge shared how she and her fellow adventure seekers spend a day kayaking at Clear Creek just outside of Winslow.

Though the dedicated Holbrook EMS worker pulls 48-hour shifts, she says there is an advantage, “I get five days off,” said Berge. Berge said her long periods off and love for the outdoors gives her plenty of time to explore the area while also encouraging others to get outdoors. Berge said of all the places they’ve gone to so far from exploring the Apache Death Caves outside of Winslow to battling the sandy hills at the Badlands on the outskirts of Holbrook, her favorite adventure so far is Clear Creek just outside of Winslow.
