The Navajo County Board of Supervisors approved the execution of the right-of-way document from the Arizona State Land Department for the extension of Woodruff Road West at the intersection with Highway 77 during the meeting on May 14.
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
The extension is part of an ongoing partnership with Aztec Land and Cattle Company in the possibility of future development along the Highway 77 corridor.

The supervisors also approved an agreement with the Town of Snowflake authorizing the county to provide financial assistance in the purchase of materials, labor and equipment to be used to chip seal various streets in the town.
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
According to John Osgood, public works director, “The Town of Snowflake has requested assistance with their annual preventive maintenance plan for approximately 4.8 miles of chip sealing.” This includes the following roadways: Park Plaza, Ridgeview, Fairway, Snowflake Heights, Hillside, Mountain View and Sundown.

The total cost of these road projects will not exceed $80,000 for the county.

Ken DeWitt, IT director, gave an update on the county’s cyber security. “It doesn’t matter how big or little you are. We are all on that landscape of the bad guys trying to get to us.”
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
While the IT Department has worked to develop layers of security, the human layer is still where 70 to 90 percent of all attacks come through.
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
“We want to give our employees an opportunity to learn and started an active annual training in February,” continued DeWitt. “We continue to test that training through phishing campaigns. The click through of those emails is down to a 3.4 percent click rate from a 43 percent rate when we started. Employees are stepping up and doing what they need to do.”

Vice Chairman Jason Whiting commented, “I think we have improved because you have scared us from opening emails. We are being asked to offer cyber insurance as they (criminals) are targeting this area. The numbers are daunting.”
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
Chairwoman Dawnafe Whitesinger shared, “I am a little more aggressive in how I deal with email instead of just accepting them at face value, I now question whether they should be opened.”

The board adopted the resolution approving the participation in the Census 2020 Complete Count Committee and encouraging every person to be counted.
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
In his presentation, Arbin Mitchell, tribal partnership specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, shared, “This resolution will be the first step in a lot of the activities the county will undertake. The next step after this resolution will be getting a complete count committee in place where they can help with the outreach and awareness.”
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
It was also noted that the 2020 Census will be targeting 80 percent of the households in the United States to complete the census online.
/wp:paragraph
wp:paragraph
As Mitchell noted, “This will be a unique challenge as it is the first time it will be done online, but it provides an opportunity to show our growth and diversity.”
