In 1997 Snowflake Heritage Foundation started the first Celebration of Christmas in the town with Santa at the Pioneer Park Band Shell. The initial goal was to become a Christmas Town, advertising throughout the state to bring in more tourism. By the next year, the 12 Days of Christmas was born and this year Snowflake will be celebrating their 20th anniversary of the event.
While the celebration in 1998 adhered strictly to the 12 days, the event has now grown to include numerous events and celebrations starting at the end of November and continuing through Sunday, Dec. 23, making Snowflake a place where Christmas is very much alive.
