By Linda Kor HOLBROOK — It was an evening of enjoyment and giving as community members gathered for the 11th Annual Bread of Life Mission Banquet held last Saturday in Holbrook. For many years the mission has provided shelter, food and opportunities to individuals in need that come to this region but the necessary funding is not always available and the banquet and auction help to provide some of those funds. Each year as part of this event, members of the law enforcement community offer to subject themselves to acts of bravery by taking part in a fashion competition that’s less than flattering. Once again this year Sheriff KC Clark stepped up for the show along with Holbrook’s Police Chief Nathan Christensen. Navajo County Attorney Brad Carlyon and Deputy Chief David Clouse organized the contest in which $3,125 was raised for the mission. These men were fearless as they competed to win the recognition of being crowned 2018 Mission Banquet Royalty, of which Clark had been the undefeated champ but Chief Christensen won the night by only five votes. According to Cherise Merrick, the director of the Bread of Life Mission, “The directors and those at the mission are always so grateful to these men and humbled by their willingness to participate. They helped make it a very fun evening.”
