Snowflake Welcome Sign

SNOWFLAKE — Marvin A Goldstein and Vanessa Joy will open the Silver Creek Performing Arts Association’s 2018-2019 season at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Snowflake High School Auditorium. Joy met Goldstein at a singer/songwriter’s workshop in Phoenix where he was an instructor and together they produced a CD entitled, “Sweet By and By,” as well as a DVD, titled “Expressions of Christ,” where Joy’s singing has been paired with Greg Olsen paintings of the Savior, with the arrangements and piano accompaniment for Joy by Goldstein. For over 50 years, Goldstein has been an internationally acclaimed pianist, piano performer, arranger, music producer, composer and entertainer. At the age of nine, he began his music training and at the age of 18 he was awarded a music scholarship to Tel Aviv University School of Music in Israel. His studies continued at the famed “Mozarteum” of Salzburg, Austria, and at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., where he completed a bachelor and Master of Music degrees. Goldstein’s music is not one genre of music. He plays religious hymns, popular music, patriotic melodies, show tunes and love songs. He has played soul with Thurl Bailey and even country with Billy Dean. He has a way of drawing the audience into the piece as they experience the emotion that it invokes. He can make the piano come alive when he is playing. One song you will be moved to tears and the next he will have you in burst-out-laughter. At the age of four, Joy started playing the violin, and performed regularly in orchestras throughout her youth in Minneapolis including the All City Orchestra. She starred in her first Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta at age 13. She soloed in concerts and also traveled the city to play in many quartets, which began an early start to her career performing in front of large audiences. Joy attended Ricks College and then majored in music at BYU. She has held major leads in opera, theatre and musical productions across the United States. She has performed with a variety of prestigious ensembles including; Sweet Adeline’s, Augusta Chamber Singers, CWRU Chorale, concert choirs, madrigal groups, jazz bands, women’s choruses, and show choirs. Joy and Goldstein have both shared the stage with Grammy winner Billy Dean, and former NBS start Thurl Bailey. Goldstein has traveled extensively performing in places such as Jerusalem, Anchorage, Oahu, Copenhagen, London and throughout Canada and the continental United States and has recorded over 50 compact discs. Genres include popular music, patriotic melodies, show tunes, sacred music and love songs. As a National Keyboard Artist with the Kawai America Corporation, Goldstein has arranged 15 piano solo arrangement books, including many sacred hymns.
