Summers just became more fun in Snowflake with the opening of the Snowflake Splash Pad on June 15. The cost of $180,000 is nothing compared to the smiles, squeals and happy laughter that echoes around the water features, which has been dubbed the “summer lifesaver” by local moms.
Surrounded by the rolling green grass of Pioneer Park, the splash pad has become the new community spot to hang out as the hot days of summer slowly drift into fall. It is not uncommon to see folks lounging on the grass, enjoying a picnic or just taking a quick break, as the children run in and out of the Splash Pad.
There is no age limit on who can play in the splash pad and folks come from all over including Eager and Lakeside to enjoy it.
The pad is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week and Snowflake Town Manager Brian Richards has not set a close date at this time, saying he wants to see what the weather brings in September.
For Amy Johnson, the Splash Pad was the perfect place to hold her son’s birthday party. Porter Johnson, the birthday boy and a second grade student at Taylor Elementary, happily chased his friends through the Pad, while his mom set out the cake on a nearby picnic table. “The Splash Pad was something we were anxiously waiting for,” said Amy, “It is a great place for everyone to have fun.”
