The Snowflake Taylor Police Department (STPD) is pleased with a newly refurbished patrol car, which saved the Town of Snowflake the cost of a new one. At the Snowflake Town Council meeting held on Feb. 6, the council approved a request by Chief Larry Scarber to fully refurbish a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria. The purchase of a new vehicle had already been budgeted for but STPD Senior Sergeant Daniel Rush had located a company in California that refurbishes vehicles at a significantly reduced cost. The STPD decided to give refurbishment a try.

The department hoped that if this refurbishment was successful that in the future other existing high mileage vehicles could be refurbished. The STPD has gotten the vehicle back and is very pleased with the results. “I think it turned out very well and saved us quite a bit over the purchase of a new vehicle,” said Scarber.

The vehicle has a three-year warranty on both the engine and transmission and nearly everything has been replaced or upgraded. The cost of the project was just over $24,000 compared to the cost of a new vehicle of $30,000 to $40,000. Scarber said, “This is a good example of how we are trying to be good stewards over allocated town funds.”
