During the annual meeting of the Navajo County Fair Board on Jan. 10, six members of the board were chosen to retain their seats. They include Jeremy Browning, Bill Elkins, J.R. DeSpain, Rusty DeSpain, Heather Scott and Paul Van Zelf. Newly elected to the board was Clarke Jones from Snowflake. The board is now full with 21 members.
Members elected to the executive board included Mike Sample, who was re-elected as President; Rusty DeSpain as vice-president; Marshall Losey, secretary; and Anna Amos, treasurer.
During the regular meeting immediately following the annual meeting, the 2018 fair was discussed. The theme for this year’s fair is “One Great County, One Great Fair.” A variety of events are in the works for this year’s fair, which include the demolition derby and the best rodeo in the state along with several other fun events and plenty of entertainment.
After reviewing the possible cuts in the fair’s budget, it was determined that it would in the best interest of the fair to conclude this year’s fair at midnight on Saturday, Sept. 15, and not hold any events on Sunday other than the carnival. A unanimous vote was taken to not have any events on Sunday, with the exception of the carnival. This means that the Navajo County Fair will run from Wednesday, Sept. 12 through Saturday, Sept. 15.
Sponsor levels were revised for the 2018 fair, a new scoreboard contract was approved from Walton Scoreboards, and entertainment contracts are in the works.
Next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb, 7 and the public is welcome to attend.
