Dragon Train is the newest game created by Dan Miller of Snowflake and while it’s good for all ages, it can be particularly useful in helping younger players learn basic math skills like counting and addition in a fun and engaging way.
“It’s only one of many games that I’ve invented and developed over the years,” shares the retired graphic designer. “I’ve invented over 20 different games, including three dimensional games for families.”
The game uses 60 cards with a domino pattern that players can lay down in the familiar method of matching numbers. A score is obtained by adding the numbers showing on the playable cards left on the board. The players also roll a six-sided die which increases their score randomly. There are wild cards included that the next player can also play off of, which adds yet another element of unpredictability. In the end, the player with the highest score when the cards run out is the winner.
Because the game uses simple techniques like matching, counting and adding, it’s fun for players of all skill levels and ages to play together. According to Miller, a round of the game will take about an hour.
Miller manufactures many of the game components from his home-based shop, where he also spends his time operating his websites, writing books, publishing CD’s and DVD’s, designing greeting cards and manufacturing custom molds.
Miller can sometimes be found at the local swap meets selling his wares, but they are always available for purchase online at dragontraingame.com. Also, the game and many of Miller’s books and creations can be found in the shopping section on another of his sites, diskpublisher.com.
