The dual enrollment program will continue at Snowflake High School, thanks to the district governing board’s unanimous decision June 9 to renew an intergovernmental agreement with Northland Pioneer College.

“This is an annual thing and we would like to continue,” Superintendent Hollis Merrell advised the board.

English 101 and 102, and college algebra are offered to SHS students through NPC, and those successfully completing them earn both high school and college credits.

Also approved was an agreement with NPC for a Title III grant that allows NPC teachers to instruct SHS students on the high school campus.

“Things are beginning to move forward,” said Merrell, noting that NPC has hired a coordinator for the program and electronic equipment is being installed at SHS.

“We’re excited about this moving forward,” said Merrell, explaining that they will offer a Spanish class and Math 152, which will also count for dual enrollment.

“They (NPC) are very desirous to make it successful, and so are we,” said Merrell, noting that the biggest need for Snowflake is Spanish instruction.

The governing board approved an agreement with the Joint Technical Education District. This is an annual agreement allowing district students to participate in Northern Arizona Vocation Institute of Technology programs.
