Members of the Snowflake Town Council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2016-09 allowing submission of an application for fiscal year 2016 state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds during a special meeting held May 31.

Librarian Cathie McDowell, who oversees the CDBG funds, explained that the resolution had to be approved and submitted in order to avoid a lengthy process to change the location.

No one commented during the public hearing on the matter.

The council previously approved using the funds for a splash pad that would be located at Centennial Park Ball Field.

Recreation and Parks Director Don Camacho explained that they ran into several obstacles with the original site, such as needing to install new bathrooms, including a septic system, which would be very costly to the town.

He suggested that the location be changed to Pioneer Park to make better use of the money. He also suggested that a master plan be completed for Centennial Park Ball Field.

Councilmen Lynn Johnson and Terril Kay asked specific questions about Centennial Ball Field.

Town Manager Brian Richards reminded them that Centennial Ball Field was not on the agenda for discussion, but he could put it on a future agenda.
