By Linda Kor The victim of a shooting that occurred Feb. 29 near Snowflake has been identified as Darrell Richey, 56, of Snowflake. According to the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, Richey went to 40-year-old Gabriel Barnes’ residence at 9801 Juniper Berry Trail, where the men engaged in a gunfight. Richey sustained gunshots to the torso of his body and died from his wounds at the scene. Barnes fled the scene and was located the following day by Major Crimes Apprehension Team detectives in Snowflake. Barnes was detained for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The White Mountain Regional Homicide Taskforce will report their findings to the Navajo County Attorney’s Office to determine if additional charges will be filed.
