The Taylor-Snowflake Fire Department is working to set up fire trucks at Stations 1 and 2 with compatible equipment, and recently purchased newer air pack units at a significant discount to help reach that goal. There were two versions and three different brands of air tanks at the two stations, which could become a safety issue, if firefighters were in a fire and grabbed an incompatible tank and regulator. They now have the ability to transfill air tanks with the updated Rapid Intervention Team, which has a bag that includes tools and equipment to transfill tanks. The equipment was purchased with wildland fire funds, which come from TSFD firefighters taking TSFD fire trucks to various wildland fires to help other communities. Firefighters Justin Moomey (left) and Robert Tryon (right) put the old tanks in Assistant Chief Willie Nelson’s pickup as Nelson demonstrates firefighter gear, including the newer air pack.
